Chalet & House Rental

Please read this page entirely. It includes useful information on what to expect when you arrive at Paddler’s Lane retreat. We share this information so that you can make an informed decision as to whether Paddler’s Lane is a good match for you and your group. If you choose not to read this information you assume all responsibility for any issues which may arise during your stay.

TAXES: State sales tax equal 6% and applies to all guest stays and merchandise.  In addition, a 3% Somerset County hotel tax applies to all stays.

SMOKING: Paddler’s Lane Retreat provides a non-smoking environment for the comfort of our guests. Smoking is not permitted in any of our rooms, however you may smoke outside. We’ll be happy to provide ashtrays. Smoking in any room will result in a $100 cleaning charge plus an additional night's charge to clean and air out the rooms.

CHECK-IN: 4 pm or any time after. If you desire/require an earlier check in please let us know. If at all possible (and it often is) we will be happy to honor your request.

CHECK-OUT: 11 pm or any time before.

CANCELLATIONS FOR FULL HOUSE OR CHALET RENTALS:  When a guest makes a reservation for a stay at Paddler’s Lane Retreat we agree to turn away all other requests for the unit you select and you agree to pay the rate quoted for the number of days you reserve it. A deposit equal to one night of your stay will be charged to the credit card provided at the time you make your reservation. Because of our size and location, cancellations affect us significantly. Additionally, when you book a full house rental we are blocking a very significant portion of our resources for your use, often for months in advance during which time we turn away all other inquiries and possible bookings. When you make your reservation you become responsible for the entire amount of your stay. We are unable to offer a refund of your deposit and you will be charged for the remaining amount due on your arrival date. However, if you cancel and we are able to rebook your dates, (give us as much notification as you can!) we will deduct the amount of the new reservation from the amount you are responsible for.

CLEANING CHARGES: When you check into Paddler’s Lane for your house or chalet rental you can expect a well-appointed, immaculately clean and neat house. Normal cleaning charges are included in our prices. Upon departure we expect you to leave the house tidy and clean and in broom swept condition. All furniture should be in its original position. Used linens may be left on the beds and in the bath. However all garbage should be taken out, the kitchen should be clean and all dishes washed and put away. The microwave, refrigerator, stove, oven and grill should also be clean and in their original condition. If you prefer to leave these and have us clean them for you, we will be happy to do so at a charge of $25 each. Extra cleaning charges may apply for any extra-ordinary messes left behind after your departure.

LINENS:  All of your towels and linens are supplied by Paddler’s Lane. Extra blankets are in the closets if you should need them. There are more towels in the bathroom cupboards and closets.

CHILDREN: We welcome well behaved children accompanied and supervised by adults. For the comfort of all of our guests please keep in mind that many of our guests come here to take a break from their own families and enjoy peace and relaxation.

PETS:  We do have limited availability for well-behaved pets with responsible owners. We must be notified in advance if you would like to bring your dog. There is a $20 pet fee per night per pet. Any pet damage is the responsibility of the pet's owner. Dogs must be on a leash at all times in the common areas of the property and are never allowed in the kitchen or dining areas. Please keep in mind that not everyone is in love with your furry companion as much as you are and behave accordingly. Sorry, cats and other small animals will not be permitted.

HOUSE OPERATIONS:

The thermostat is next to the back bedroom. Turn it to where you are comfortable keeping energy conservation in mind. Please do not leave the heat or air conditioning on if the doors or windows are open.

There is a garbage can under the kitchen sink for your use. There are also marked recycle bins on the deck. Please use these for any recyclables you may have.

The water system back flushes between 1:00 and 2:00 AM. Avoid using the water during this time if possible. We know this may not always be possible.

When you leave the house please make sure all appliances are off and temperature control is suitably moderated. The coffee pot especially is an easy one to forget so please make sure it is unplugged when you go out.

Please use the coasters provided for your use.

When your stay is over, again, please make sure that all electrical appliances are off and/or unplugged, and that the furnace and air conditioning are turned off or down.

KITCHEN, GRILL AND COOKING:

There is a charcoal grill on the deck. Charcoal can be purchased at the grocery store in town or at Dollar General if needed.

Please hand-wash all wooden utensils and knives with wooden handles. Putting them in the dishwasher will cause them to crack.

We do expect you to clean up after yourself in the kitchen. This includes dishes, stove, oven, and grill. If you prefer to leave the stove, oven, grill or dishes for us to clean we will take care of it for you at a charge of $50 each. This charge will be added to your bill.

FIRES, FIREPLACES, FIRE PITS AND FIREWOOD:

There is wood and kindling just outside the back door for the fireplace if you should need it. The damper is set in the proper position. Please keep the fire screens closed while the fire is burning.

If you plan to use the fire pit you are very welcome. You will need to purchase wood for the fire pit. We do have wood available for sale on the property. The rate is $7 a bundle which is what we pay for it and less than you can get it for in town.

Do not bring your own wood with you. There is a quarantine on firewood brought into Pennsylvania due to the Emerald Ash Borer. It’s a serious problem, and we need to do everything possible to keep this disease out of Pennsylvania.
